Common pitfalls

When building your food truck or trailer there are a few things you should avoid.

• ​Buying used equipment, is a very temping often when buying used you won't know how long it will last. Refrigeration can be the most risky purchase. Fridges and freezer require maintenance which if ignored will affect the life of the unit. Gas equipment is  generally a safe used purchase, but be aware that it might be set for natural gas not propane. This risk for some is worth taking, we recommend buying new whenever possible.
•  Buying a used Truck or Trailer. People decide to sell their stuff for many reasons, and sometimes it can be a smart purchase. We do recommend presale inspections both for the vehicle and the kitchen inside.  
• Choosing a Builder, look for companies that will put deals in writing. We know not everyone will hire us to build their truck or trailer. That's fine by us, but we don't want to see people get taken advantage of. There are companies that will not act ethically, and have taken advantage of there customers. Sometimes it is a minor cost, but it also could cost thousands.
• Research the process.  There are allot of steps to being able to sell food to the public. We know you want to start living your dream asap, but licensing and permitting takes time. It also can be expensive remember to reserve funds for this. Your local process will vary, try to find out how long it takes. New businesses can be stalled out while waiting for approval.
